US Media Seeks to Bargain with Google, Facebook

News organizations in the United States are seeking the right to collective bargaining with Google and Facebook through their industry association, the News Media Alliance. That’s what industry associations are for; to defend the common interests of companies that otherwise could not work together because of their competitive positions.

But to be able to collectively bargain with the digital giants, news media need an anti-trust exemption from the US Congress. That’s not an easy proposition in the best of times. How do you think it will go in the era of “fake news,” when the President of the United States calls news media “the Enemy of the American people”?
